Brian R. Hackerson, Technical Manager, 3M SEMS Corporate Research Laboratory
I believe I have the greatest job in the world. It only took about 20 years to get there. I get to work in Corporate Research at 3M. My team and I are actively working on new software and systems new product development. You’re probably thinking Scotch Tape, Post-it(R) Notes and sandpaper at this point in your reading. With my prior background in software development and leadership I was hired to accelerate efforts to create new systems for 3M. While I do that, I get to try out bleeding edge technologies while figuring out how to apply them into the 3M products of the future.
I came to 3M a little over 3 years ago. Prior to that I had a number of leadership and consulting positions most recently with Ingenix, a division of UnitedHealth Group. I am most proud of a software application (Plan Cost Estimator) I helped build that won an industry award in 2004. I also worked on several other consumer health applications including one of the largest healthcare web portals (http://www.myuhc.com). Most of the rest of my career was in the healthcare industry, working for many of the managed healthcare companies in the Twin Cities area.
I graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelors in Mathematics, and have completed graduate coursework at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. I also have a certificate in Information Quality Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The banner on my home page is from the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. My wife and I spent a glorious week there in 2009 while celebrating our 20th anniversary. One of the great weeks of our lives. I highly recommend this resort for a stay in Monterey, CA.
